Dawgs Prep for National Tournament

Prep Tournament at Purdue

The Butler Club Basketball team will be competing in a 12-team tournament at Purdue this upcoming weekend that is dubbed as a “prep tournament” for nationals, which is just 3 weeks away. The Dawgs have mustered a .500 record in the second half of the season thus far after tournaments at Missouri and their Regional tournament at Illinois. Purdue’s tournament (April 9,10) figures to be a good measuring stick for Butler before they head to Nationals at Ohio State.

Nationals

After not traveling to the national tournament last season, the Dawgs will be returning once again, this time at Ohio State University. There will be 32 teams in the field and the Dawgs are looking to end their season on the highest of notes, a national championship.

Dawgs Fall in Championship of Dayton Invitational

Yet another strong Sunday for the Bulldogs.

After a sluggish 0-3 start to the Dayton Invitational on Saturday, November 7, the Dawgs rallied for two straight wins on Sunday. One over #1 overall seed Missouri. The Dawgs did however run out of gas on the last game Sunday falling to Dayton A in the championship game.

It was another great opportunity for the team to grow together and play. The Dawgs now have until second semester to continue practicing and preparing before a busy second half of the year kicks off.

Thank you all for your continued support!

Dawgs Rally Late to Overcome a Tough Bradley Squad!

On Saturday, November 9th, Parents’ Weekend kicked off with festivities all over campus! While parents and students gathered in the Hinkle parking lot to tailgate, the Butler Club Basketball Team faced off against a very experienced Bradley University squad. The Dawgs battled through the first half to find themselves with a  half time lead of 43-36. Matt Troja, a senior and captain for the Butler team, kicked off the second half with back-to-back three-pointers to push the lead to 13. Although the Bradley squad answered with a few three’s of their own, Butler rallied at the 12-minute mark to find 3 steals and 12 fast-break points from the freshman duo, Trey Pettus and Bernard McFarland.

With 11 mintues left in the second half, Butler turned to their inside presence with Jim Herrick and Lavell Dean. While Bradley chained several quick opportunities, Herrick and Dean combined for 14 points in a 4-minute span to increase the Dawgs lead to 15.  Bradley responded in turn with several three-pointers in the closing minutes, but another round of fast-break points and mid-range jumpshots by Nick Donati kept the Butler team well ahead of Bradley as the game closed and Butler held on to an impressive 88-77 final score.

The Dawgs are now 5-1 on the year and will announce their next games in the coming weeks. We would also like to add a special thanks to all the families and friends that watched our game against Bradley! Stay tuned for more updates!
