Weekly Wednesday Update 9/14/2022

We are excited to be back for the 2022-2023 academic year! Let’s take a look at what our club teams accomplished this past weekend and see where a couple of our teams have coming up.

Past Weekend 9/9-9/11

Hockey: Club Hockey won their first match against Bradley on 9/9 and dropped the second on 9/10. They begin their season 1-1.

Men’s Soccer: Men’s Soccer kicked off their season on 9/9 vs Notre Dame at Varsity Field in Indianapolis. The result was a 2-2 draw. On Sunday, 9/11 they traveled to Wright State and defeated the Raiders 3-2. They start the season 1-0-1.

eSports: The Rocket League team defeated Oral Roberts in their first match 3-0. They would later drop their match with Kansas and begin the season 1-1.

Next Weekend 9/16-9/18

Women’s Soccer: Women’s Soccer has two games on Saturday, 9/17. 12 pm vs Loyola and 2 pm vs Illinois State. Both games are at Varsity Field in Indianapolis. They also will travel to Ball State University on 9/18.

Tennis: Club Tennis is going to Mason, Ohio on 9/17 for their first tournament of the year. This tournament is hosted by Xavier University.

Health & Recreation Coronavirus Update 3/12

The Butler University Department of Student Health and Recreation is working closely with University officials to monitor the rapidly changing situation with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). We recognize that the Health and Recreation Complex (HRC) is one of the most heavily-used facilities on campus and houses activities and programs, with a high concentration of personal contact and shared spaces.

The safety and wellbeing of our participants and staff is our top priority. In order to protect our community, the recreation, fitness, and aquatics facilities will close at 8 pm on March 12, 2020, and remain closed until at least Saturday, April 4.

Which programs and services will be affected?

  • The following programs will be suspended until at least April 4
    • Club Sports practices and events
    • Intramural Sports
    • Group exercise classes
    • Personal training sessions
    • Massage therapy
    • HRC courts, rooms, machines and equipment
    • Sauna and pool closed, and swim lessons canceled
  • If you have a locker and would like to retrieve your personal belongings, please contact hrc@butler.edu to make arrangements.

What about the other offices housed in the HRC?

At the time of this email: Health Services, Counseling and Consultation Services, and the Sexual Assault Response & Prevention (SARP) Office will remain open. Please visit butler.edu/health-rec for information about each area & their hours.

If you are experiencing symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, you should call your medical provider.

    • Butler students should contact Health Services (317-940-9385) during business hours or call the Indiana State Department of Health Epidemiology Resource Center (317-233-7125) outside of business hours.

Weekly Wednesday Update 3/4

Just a few more days until spring break! Let’s take a look at what our club teams accomplished this past weekend and see where a couple of our teams are headed over break.

Past Weekend 2/28-3/1

Curling: Club Curling won a close match against the Fantastic Four, 4-3 on Friday, Feb. 28th.

Bass Fishing: A few of our Bass Fishing members attended the Bassmasters competition in Smith Lake, Alabama over the weekend. While they did not get the outcome they were looking for, due to bad weather conditions, they learned a lot from the experience and hope for better luck in the future.

Women’s Basketball: The Women’s Club Basketball team competed in another NIRSA League Play tournament at Kent State University on Saturday, Mar. 4th. They went 1-2 on the weekend (L 45-44 , W 43-35, L 48-39).

Week of Spring Break 3/6-3/15

Curling: Club Curling has one final match before spring break on Friday, March 6th at 7:30pm.

Tennis: Club Tennis is going to Las Vegas for a tournament towards the end of spring break next week.

Weekly Wednesday Update 2/26

Happy Wednesday and Butler Day of Giving!! Be sure to check out the link in our Instagram and Twitter bios to help support our 26 club sports teams! We have many new clubs that are looking for support to get them up and running, and many clubs are headed to Nationals later this semester! Any donations would be greatly appreciated to help them out!

Past Weekend 2/21-2/23

Curling: Club curling fell short to the Rock Stars on Friday, Feb. 21, losing 6-2.

Tennis: Club tennis competed in the Midwest Sectional Championship over the weekend at the University of Wisconsin. They won 3 matches, lost 2, and reach the gold bracket which contains the Top 16 teams.

Men’s Volleyball: The Men’s Club Volleyball Team traveled to Milwaukee short handed for the D2 Invitational and finished with a record of 2-6 on the weekend. They won their games over Stephen’s Point (25-22,15-25, 15-8) and Saint Olaf (27-25, 18-25, 17-15). Overall, the Men’s Team did not get the results they wanted but this was another successful step on the way to Nationals this spring.

Ultimate: The Club Ultimate team traveled to Nashville for the Music City Tune-Up. They finished with a record of 2-5, placing 12th out of 16 teams. There were 23 total participants for Butler.

Women’s Basketball: The Women’s Club Basketball team competed in the NIRSA Regional Championship Tournament at University of Georgia. They had a successful weekend, going 2-2 overall (W 42-22, L 56-27, W 43-26, L 43-19).

Upcoming Weekend 2/28-3/1

Curling: Weekly match at Indy Fuel Tank against Circle City Curling league teams on Friday at 7:30 pm.

Run: Run Club will be competing at the Illinois Club Relays NIRCA track meet at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign on February 29th at 10 am.

Bass Fishing: Club Bass Fishing is currently in Smith Lake, Alabama for the BASSMASTERS College Series that will go through the weekend.

Women’s Volleyball: Women’s Club Volleyball is participating in a 2-day tournament, Saturday and Sunday, at Purdue that is for their ranking at Nationals coming up at the end of the year.

Women’s Basketball: Women’s Club Basketball is competing in another weekend of conference play at Kent State University on Saturday and Sunday.

Past Weekend 2/14-2/16

Curling: Curling lost a close one, 7-6, against the Sweeping Beauties this past Friday.

Upcoming Weekend 2/21-2/23

Curling: Has their weekly match at Indy Fuel Tank in Fishers on Friday, Feb. 21st, against Circle City Curling league teams.

Climbing: Club Climbing has their first USAC sanctioned rope climbing competition on Saturday, Feb. 22nd at Hoosier Heights. This will be the 3rd competition for Club Climbing in local competitions.

Men’s Volleyball: Men’s Club Volleyball is headed up to Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin this weekend for the Midwest D2 Invitational. The tournament is two days, Saturday and Sunday at the Milwaukee Sting Complex.

Ultimate: The Butler Big Dog Club Ultimate team has their first event of the semester this weekend in Nashville, Tennessee! They will be playing some strong competition in preparation for the spring season.

Women’s Basketball: The Women’s Club Basketball team is traveling down south to University of Georgia this weekend to participate in a regional tournament.

Tennis: Another club team is headed to Wisconsin for the weekend as well! Club Tennis is participating in the Midwest TOC Sectional Championship tournament at University of Wisconsin-Madison on Saturday and Sunday.

Weekly Wednesday Update 2/12

Past Weekend 2/7-2/9

Curling: On Friday, February 7th, Curling defeated Rock Solid 8-7 in an exciting match! Butler came back in the final end after being down 3 in the second end and came home with a win.

Hockey: Hockey faced Purdue in two games this weekend at Pop Weaver Pavilion on Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately, they couldn’t pull out a win in either game but they learned a lot as a team playing harder competition. They also celebrated the 4 seniors on the team at Sunday’s game, after they just played in one of their last games as a Bulldog.

Women’s Basketball: The Women’s basketball team had a successful weekend in Wisconsin, participating in the first conference play games of the season! They started off the weekend strong, winning their first game 37-31. While they lost their two games after that, it was a great experience bonding experience for the team and they are looking forward to competing in more games in the future!

Upcoming Weekend 2/14-2/16

Curling: Club Curling has a match this Friday, February 14th at 7:30 pm at Indy Fuel Tank.

Hockey: Club Hockey is traveling to Central Michigan this weekend to play in two games against CMU on Friday, February 14th and Saturday, February 15th. Wish them luck before they head out!

Equestrian: Club Equestrian has their first horse show of the year this weekend! The BUCE Team will be competing competitively against other collegiate equestrian teams at Saint Mary of the Woods University starting on Saturday, February 15th at 8am.

Weekly Wednesday Update 2/5

Happy Hump day! As we dive into February, let’s see what our Club teams have coming up for the first weekend of the month…

CHAARG: Butler’s CHAARG Club has their Welcome Back social on Thursday, February 6th in the Johnson Room at 6pm. Be sure to go if you are interested in becoming a part of CHAARG or are already a member!

Club Tennis: Our Club Tennis team will be spending the weekend at IUPUI for the Naptown Midnight Tournament! It will take place at the West Indy Racquet Club from Friday, February 7th through Sunday, February 9th.

Club Hockey: Hockey has a double header against Purdue this weekend at Pop Weaver Pavilion. They play on Saturday, February 8th at 8:30pm and Sunday, February 9th at 9:45am. Sunday’s game is also their senior game; come out and support them as they play in one of their final games of their career!

Women’s Club Basketball: Our women’s basketball team is traveling up north to Wisconsin this weekend to compete in their first conference play in the NIRSA league of the semester! Make sure to wish them good luck before they head out!

Club Swim: This Saturday, February 8th, the swim team is traveling to another meet to compete in the Hoosier Invite in Bloomington, IN. The meet starts at 1pm.

Weekly Wednesday Update 1/29

Happy Wednesday everyone! On behalf of the Club Sports department, we hope second semester is going well for all Butler students so far and we are excited to begin our Spring semester in Club Sports! Our Club Hockey team and Esports have already had some competitions this semester and this weekend, we have a few club teams participating in their first event of the semester! Let’s take a look at how some of our club teams have been doing and what’s in store for this weekend…

Past Weekend 1/24-1/26

Club Hockey: Competed against Purdue University on Friday, January 24th. This was a tough one for the Bulldogs, falling 13-1 to the Boilermakers.

Club Esports: Butler Challengers LoL team, one of our Club Esports teams, competed on Saturday, January 25th. They fell short to Purdue, losing 0-2.

Upcoming Weekend 1/31-2/2

Club Swim: The Club Swim Team is traveling to Chicago this Saturday, February 1st to participate in the Northwestern Invitational at Norris Aquatic Center. This will be their first meet of the semester!

Club Esports: Two of our Club Esports teams are competing this Saturday, February 1st. The Butler Rocket League B Team is playing Purdue at 3pm and Butler Challengers are playing Indiana Institute of Technology at the same time. Both games with be streamed live on twitch.tv/butleresports!

Weekly Wednesday Update 12/11

Happy Wednesday Butler students! As we approach finals next week, make sure you take time to yourself to destress and relax. Whether that be exercising, taking a nap, or watching Netflix, it is very important to take care of your physical and mental health.

Here is what we have going on in the Club Sports department…

Past Weekend 12/6-12/8

Curling: Last Friday, December 6th, Club Curling had their weekly Friday curling match. However, this match featured both Butler teams playing against each other. It was a great opportunity for members to show what they have learned against other club members.

Hockey: Club Hockey traveled to Tennessee for the weekend to compete against Middle Tennessee State University. Overall, they had a successful trip, winning 3-2 on Friday, 12/6 and losing a close one, 2-1 on Saturday, 12/7. This was Club Hockey’s last weekend of competition for the semester. After Winter Break, they will be right back at it facing Trine University!

Upcoming Weekend 12/13-12/15

Dance: While the story is a little different than we may know, Butler Dance Club has been hard at work putting together The Nutcracker Abridged performance. This Friday, December 13th is the final performance at 6pm in Lilly Hall 328! It is free admission but feel free to donate to the Cameron Boyce Foundation and come support Dance Club’s amazing dancers!

Curling: Match at the Fuel Tank in Fishers; back to back games at 7:30pm and 9:30pm.

Weekly Wednesday Update 12/4

Welcome back students, faculty, and fans! On behalf of the Club Sports department, we hope you all had a relaxing Thanksgiving break and enjoyed spending time with family and friends! While our Fall Season has come to an end, Winter Club Sports are just gearing up and here is what is in store for this weekend!

Curling: Has a match this Friday, December 6th at 9:30 in Fishers, Indiana in the Fuel Tank Arena.

Esports: The Ball So Hard Foundation will be hosting its first annual eSports tournament! Ball So Hard will be hosting a NBA 2K20 Video Game Tournament on December 7th @10:30am in the new Lacy School of Business. Entry fee is $10. Winner will win $250 and FREE food will be provided to participants. Be apart of this awesome new experience and have a chance to win cash! All proceeds will go to charity and will help contribute to their 11th annual basketball tournament in the spring.
