Despite coming back from a year off due to the pandemic, the Women’s Club Basketball Team is in full swing this year! We hosted tryouts in late September and have 12 girls on the team. The team has been working hard in practice to get ready for competition. We are excited to be playing in our first games of the year this weekend, November 6th & 7th, here at Butler in a 6 team tournament.

On Sunday, April 7th, we traveled to IU Bloomington for a day of tournament games. We had 6 girls travel for the trip. We played a total of 4 games for the day, going 2-2. The first game we played against IU went into double overtime and we got the win! We also had another game, against Miami of OH go into overtime as well, but unfortunately we were unable to come on top.

NIRSA Regional Championships
Last weekend we traveled to the University of Dayton to play in the NIRSA Regional Championships. There were 15 other women’s team in attendance for this tournament. We went 0-3 for the weekend, and although we only had 6 girls, we put up a great fight and left it all on the court for each game. The teams we played against were: Ohio University, Saint Louis University, and Marquette University. We would like to say congratulations to our president, Jayda Watkins, who received an All Tournament MVP award for the weekend!
We have 2 more events scheduled before we close out our season for the year. We will be traveling to IU Bloomington this coming Sunday (April 7th), and then will host Indiana State University on Saturday, April 20th.
Home Tournament Results
Last weekend, February 9th-10th we hosted a home tournament here on campus. We had 5 other teams join us for a weekend of good fun and great competition. We ended up going 3-3 for the weekend and landed in 3rd place overall! We had a great turnout of fans and were greatly appreciative for them all to come out and cheer us on. We also want to say thank you to all of the volunteers who helped up throughout the weekend as well.
This moves us to a season record of 5-8 overall, with one more scheduled tournament for the year. 2019 Spring Semester Happenings
Hello All!
We hope you all have a great first week of classes!
We have gotten back into the swing of things to get ready for our busy spring semester that we have coming up. We have added a few new members to our team and are excited to have them with us and look forward to them adding to our roster.
The first tournament we have this semester will be Saturday, February 9th thru Sunday, February 10th here at Butler. We are expecting around 7 teams to join us for the weekend and look forward to some great competition. Any and all are welcome to come out and show support! We will then have a little over a month off before traveling to the University of Dayton for the NIRSA Regional Basketball Championships. Games will be held from Friday, March 22nd thru Sunday March 24th with 16 women’s teams in attendance. This will be our biggest tournament of the season.
Check back for updates on our success at each tournament.
Butler University Round Robin
This past Sunday we hosted a Round Robin here on campus. This was our second and final round of games for the semester. We had 9 of our members attend and participate in the set of games. We had four games that we played against 3 different schools. Indiana University Bloomington (who brought 2 teams), Purdue University, and University of Cincinnati. We went 1-3 during the round robin.
Although we are finished for the semester, we plan to continue working to get better for the spring semester. We don’t have a schedule set yet, but plan to attend a couple of tournaments and host our own again.
NKU Tournament
This past Sunday the Women’s Club Basketball Team traveled to Highland Heights, Kentucky to play our first tournament of the season at Northern Kentucky University. We had 8 of our girls travel with us. The teams we played against were Northern Kentucky and University of Cincinnati. We ended up going 1-2 at the tournament, but were greatly satisfied with our performance, especially since we have such a young team this year. Each of the two games we lost was only by single digits.
We have a two week break before hosting our own round robin tournament here at Butler on November 4th. We look forward to the event and getting better over the next two weeks. Hope to see you there!

Our first set of games will be played on Saturday, October 6th at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH. Then, a couple of weeks later we will be playing on Friday, October 19th through Sunday, October 21st at Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, KY. Lastly, on Sunday, November 4th we will have a round robin here on campus.
As we complete these weekends of game play we will update the blog on the results, so make sure to be on the lookout for those!
