Results from the Weekend
We competed this past weekend at the Boiler Bash Invitational at Purdue University. Other participating teams were Purdue, IU, Notre Dame, Ball State, University of Illinois, and Northern Illinois. We placed 3rd out of the 8 teams that participated (Purdue had an A and B team). There were two pools consisting of 4 teams. Our first match was a close one against Purdue’s A Team, with them winning. We then went on to beat Notre Dame and Ball State. Placing 2nd in our pool, we then went on to play for 3rd and 4th against Purdue’s B Team. We won that match with just enough time to make it back to watch the Bulldogs play Marquette.
We finished our season the same day as the basketball team. We were definitely proud of our accomplishments this year – champions of the Gold Bracket at the Badger Classic at the University of Wisconsin and the champions of the Silver Bracket at the Midwest Championships. We beat some of the top teams not only in the Midwest, but in the nation, and made a name for the Butler University Club Tennis Team!
Midwest Championship Results!
This past weekend, we competed in the Midwest Championships in Madison, WI. Friday consisted of pool play. Our pool included Michigan State, Michigan, and Chicago. We did not play our best on Friday, which put us in the Silver Bracket instead of the Gold Bracket. On Saturday, we competed and won the Silver Bracket, where we beat Indiana State in the Final. Winning the Silver Bracket at the Midwest Championship is still a feat never achieved before for Butler Club Tennis. Overall, it was a fun weekend; eating out, shopping, and spending time with the team.
Congrats Matt Tran, Dani Merar, Kate Meiners, Bridget Veldman, Dan Michaels, and Jay Shideler!
Results from Last Semester & the Semester Looking Forward
The Fall ’12 Semester was the most successful semester in Butler University Club Tennis history. We won the ISU Tennis Invitational and the Gold Bracket of the Wisconsin Badger Classic, along with dual matches throughout the semester. Looking forward, we are competing in the Midwest Championship next weekend. Because of the success we had first semester, we are seeded in the top 10. If we do well enough, we will be invited to go to Nationals in Arizona! Also, on March 23rd we will be traveling to Purdue University for a tournament. Scheduling matches this semester is tough, but we plan on having at least 2 more dual matches with IU and ISU. We’re looking forward to a great semester ahead!
Off to a Great Start!
We had our first match at 10am this morning against one of the top teams here, IU. We game back from behind in the overall game score and beat them in overtime and a super tiebreak. The final game score was 28-27! We all worked hard and we couldn’t be more proud! Today is just pool play, but that win will put us in a higher bracket for tomorrow! Illinois is next, who is seeded 4th. We look forward to having a good time. Pictures to come after the tournament!
On the Road Again…
We are traveling to the annual Badger Classic this weekend in Madison, WI. This is our biggest tournament of the year besides Sectionals/Nationals at the end of the year. It is comprised of 32 of the top teams from the Midwest and around the country. (Arizona, Boston College, Marquette, U of I, UW, PU, IU, and more!) We look forward to meeting new people and having a great time!
ISU Invitational CHAMPIONS
WE DID IT! This past weekend we competed at the Indiana State University Invitational. Other competing teams were ISU, University of Illinois, IU, Miami of Ohio, Bradley, IUPUI, and Loyola. We started playing at 10am and almost never had a break until 8pm (as you can see with the lights on behind us). Let’s just say, we were a little tired. This is Butler University’s first ever invitational championship, and we are wanting more this year. We can’t wait to see what this year may bring!
Practices
We began practices last Wednesday and had 46 people attend. It was somewhat difficult with only 4 courts, but we made it work. We kept people moving and made it fun for everyone! On Monday, we had almost the same amount of people. We played games such as King of the Court, Doubles Double or Nothing, and Team Tennis/Eliminator. For those who are still interested in coming out, we practice Mondays and Wednesdays from 9-10:30pm at the Tennis Bubble. We enjoy having anyone who wants to come out. Dues are $35. Can’t wait for this year’s matches to start! Hope to see some of you out there!
