St. Louis

Over the weekend, the team traveled to St. Louis for a tournament. The Midwest Plains Volleyball Conference (MWPVC) hosted an event at Oakville High School for its east regional competition. The Dawgs traveled for the first time this semester and after some tough fought battles finished 8th overall. Dealing with a few injuries and some unlucky breaks, the boys played a very competitive tournament.  The team started the day off with a 25-17, 25-19 victory against Saint Louis B. The next game the dawgs were also victorious winning in two sets against Southeast Missouri State 25-23 and 25-18. In the last game of the morning, Butler was unfortunately fell against the eventual 2nd overall seed University of Arkansas. This placed Butler in the silver bracket where we fell to Saint Louis A team and Harding University. This doesn’t take away from the incredible performance the Dawgs put up all day, not to mention starting 2 freshman all tournament while still being powered by a force of primarily sophomores and juniors. This young team is growing and very competitive and they let it be known early. Also, Junior middle, Ethan Polak, played an exceptional tournament being one of our strongest blockers and deadly attacker. Additionally, Sophomore setter, Sam Lineweaver, did a fantastic job distributing the ball all weekend getting all our hitters involved. Teaming up with right side Junior, Sam Summers, the power/connection of two Sams proved to be a strong force all tournament. Congrats to them for a great tournament. We cannot wait to continue the season!

That is all, as always Go Dawgs.

2022-23 Season Kickoff

Welcome back Dawgs! After a very exciting season last year, the fellas are back and ready to rock. With the return of a lot of old faces and the addition of some new ones, the team is already getting back into the gym to top the results we had last year. We are kicking off our season with a tournament at Ball State on 10/15/22 and shortly after going to the University of Illinois on 10/22/22 to show what a Dawg can do.

As we near our 2023 Spring season we hope to travel the City in Two States, Kansas City, MO/KS. A lot of you may associate it with the guy in the State Farm commercials, but not us, we associate it with winning. We will be perfect in every aspect of the game. We miss a serve, we run a mile. We miss a blocking, we run a mile. We shank a pass, and we will kindly provide encouragement, and then we will run a mile.

Perfection. Let’s go to work!

MWPVC East Regional

Good Morning Dawgs,

Two weekends ago the Butler Men’s Club Volleyball team travelled to St. Louis, MO to compete in its first away event since early 2020. The Midwest Plains Volleyball Conference (MWPVC) hosted an event at Oakville High School for its east regional competition. The Dawgs entered the day as the number 6 seed, but would outperform their ranking and finish 3rd after an unfortunate tiebreaker. The team started the day off with a 25-11, 25-15 victory against Saint Louis B. The next game the dawgs were also victorious winning in three sets against Missouri State B 28-26, 23-25, 15-10. In the last game of the morning, Butler was also victorious against the 3rd overall seed Missouri S & T in convincing fashion, 25-14, 25-16. This placed Butler in the championship pool with defending national champions Saint Louis A and Division 1 school Missouri State, the number 1 and number 2 overall seeds for the tournament. The Dawgs stayed hot and defeated the Missouri State club 25-15, 14-25, 15-13, a great upset. The Dawgs would eventually run out of gas for the final game of the day losing to SLU 18-25, 22-25. Missouri State would go on to defeat SLU in the last game of championship pool leaving the winner down to tiebreakers. Unfortunately the Dawgs would finish third due to these tiebreakers but hey that’s still pretty great.

This doesn’t take away from the incredible performance the Dawgs put up all day, not to mention using 7 underclassmen and 1 senior all day. This young team is dangerous and they let it be known early. The MWPVC is officially on notice for the Dawgs to cause issues in conference play. As a reward for their great play the dawgs were ranked #6 overall in the country for division 2. A great accomplishment and the highest ranking in program history. Also, senior citizen, Alex Reinke, was named Co-MVP of the East Regional tournament as voted on by directors of the tournament. Congrats to him for a great tournament. We cannot wait to continue the season.

Next week Tuesday 2/22/2022 the Dawgs will host Taylor University for a scrimmage on campus. We would love any support the Butler family has to offer.

That is all, as always Go Dawgs.

2021-2022 Men’s Club Volleyball

Boys, we are back. COVID may have put us off the radar for over a year but Men’s Club Volleyball is back and #readytoroll. With a current influx of young talent, Butler Club Volleyball is back. I’ll say it again, we are back.

This upcoming year brings hope to the club as we return to the sport we all love. Currently we are scheduled to visit Ball State on 11/20/2021 to go and win a tournament. As we near our 2022 Spring season we hope to travel the land of the Cacti, Phoenix, AZ. A lot of you may retire there, but not us, this is where we thrive. We were born to be volleyball players, even the vertically challenged. This is where we show them our abilities, nay our skills. We will succeed, we will prevail, we will win.

Have I mentioned…. WE ARE BACK.

God bless the U.S.A

Block Party 2020

Hello and welcome back everyone!

Simply providing a quick update on block party for the 2020-2021 season. Due to COVID-19 concerns the event has gone full online. We believe we have done everything we need to so that we are present in the online portion and easily accessible. With that being said we could have very easily missed a step that might not put us in touch with the maximum amount of players. That being said we are hoping this will serve as a secondary way for new players to get in touch.

We have a zoom meeting time from 11:30 to 2:00 tomorrow 8/29/20. That link is below. We will also use our Instagram page (@bumensclubvb) to keep people updated. Feel free to message us with any questions. The Butler Men’s Club Volleyball email is also a good place to reach us with any questions (mensvolleyballclub@butler.edu). Below is also a simple questionnaire to help the officers get in touch with new players.

We hope to interact with a lot of new players tomorrow, see you then!

2020 Spring Season Wrap Up

Well that didn’t go as planned…Unfortunately due to the ever grumpy COVID-19 the season was cut short, too short. When all players left for spring break in early March we said our “see you later” assuming we would see them in a week or two, this would not be the case. Butler University moved to online schooling during spring break and the 2020 roster’s last words of “see you later” turned into “goodbyes” pretty quickly. Shortly thereafter the NCVF cancelled their annual national tournament that was scheduled to be hosted in Kansas City on Easter weekend. The club and all of its members are very sad to have their season cut short. Sometimes that is just how the cookie crumbles and instead of letting it get the best of us we look forward to next season and becoming better students and athletes as a result. With that being said we want to extend a huge thank you to our two seniors for their countless time they have spent with the club.

Brad Herzog- A swiss army knife of a player who was always ready to practice. Brad, better known by some as “baseball bat Brad”, was a student of the game for all four years of college volleyball. He learned a lot and grew as a player. Men’s Club Volleyball reaches out a big thank you to Brad for his commitment.

Johnny McDonald- The backbone of the team for the past few years Johnny will be next to impossible to replace. President of this club his sophomore year Johnny was vital in sending Butler to its first national tournament as well as mentoring incoming presidents for their terms. All-conference honoree a few times, “Johnald” will also be tough to replace on the court as well. Johnny has anchored the outside position for this club for plenty of years and even lived out his volleyball dream when he set for an entire tournament this year. Rumor has it he sent a mix-tape of his highlights coming in as a freshman, now that is dedication!!!! Johnny moves on to to take his CPA exams this summer and we are rooting for him as he has always rooted for us. We might miss most his countless miles on the red Toyota Rav-4 but I am sure we will find a new road trip vehicle. Below is a picture of Johnny, what a beautiful human!

THANK YOU SENIORS AND BEST OF LUCK MOVING ON!

To wrap up this post I would like to welcome our new officers. I know with good faith that they are eager and excited to carry on the Butler Men’s Club Volleyball ways!

President- Alex Reinke

Vice President- Henry Weinberg

Treasurer- Mitch Hoelscher

Social Media Chair- Nathan Carnes

Best of luck to them in 2020-2021, the club is in great hands!

Happy Holidays From The Dawgs

The Dawgs had a successful first semester and are looking to transfer that success over to next semester. Now, the Dawgs are at rest and will recharge over this Christmas break and gear up for next semester. All the Dawgs want for Christmas is a bid to Nationals in Kansas City.
