This past weekend (2/21-2/23) had a lot of Club Sports action, with four clubs traveling to compete! Without further ado, we have a brief summary for each club below!
Club Tennis traveled to the University of Wisconsin to compete in the sectionals tournament being hosted. The Bulldogs finished 8th out of 32 teams overall, fighting injury and tough competition. Their biggest wins were against Michigan State University and Miami University, and they fell just three points short of beating Cincinnati and moving up to 6th. This was a fun weekend for the club members and gave them a chance to compete against some of the best players in the region!
The Club Equestrian team traveled to St Mary of the Woods College this weekend for a two-day Hunt Seat show. Day 1 was a modest performance, with a 2nd place finish (Open Flat) and two 3rd place finishes (Open Fences and Walk/Trot/Canter). On Day 2 though, the club put on an excellent performance, with three first place finishes (Open Fences, Open Flat, and Walk/Trot/Canter), putting them at six top-3 finishes overall and ten top-5 finishes for the weekend!
Men’s Club Volleyball had a tough weekend at Indiana University where they competed against the top competition in the Midwest, but there were certainly some redeeming moments. In pool play on Saturday, the Bulldogs took #21 Ohio State A (currently 9-0 with only one lost set in the Big10) to three games, losing by just 5 points in the third set. On Saturday, Butler defeated the Buckeyes’ B team in 3 sets after being penalized 10 points in the first game (being late to referee the first match of the day), before falling to Indiana University in the quarterfinals of the Silver Bracket. For the two seniors that were at the tournament, Rob Branflick and Chris Thompson, this was their last travel tournament; both played exceptionally well and finished of their Club careers with strong performances!
Finally, Women’s Club Volleyball traveled to Purdue University with both their A and B teams to attend a NCVF (National Club Volleyball Federation) Ranking Tournament, the Boiler Blackout! Butler A upset host Purdue in their first match of the tournament, winning in two sets! The only loss for the Butler A team was to the tournament champion, University of Michigan, in the semifinal match of the gold bracket. The Bulldogs A team finished 3rd in the tournament overall, in one of the toughest competitions they have had this year!
Thanks to Equestrian, Tennis, Men’s Volleyball, and Women’s Volleyball for representing Butler at these events and doing a great job! Go Dawgs!
